As the world is now, Pokémon battling is a nightmare; injury and death are common side affects, and few even blink an eye when the creatures they call their "friends" and "partners" fade before their very eyes. Indeed, some would argue that it's a natural instinct for Pokémon to fight, but not at the extent that it is now. Once upon a time, it was an activity meant to bond trainers and their faithful companions. Now, it's nothing more than heartless.
That's where RPEPB comes in; originally, we began as a small volunteer group educating people about battling ethically. Unfortunately, it didn't turn out so well; few opted to acknowledge our existence, and even fewer listened to our ideology and put it into action. As they say, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em; instead of just educating, we changed our goal to implementing battling technology, researching medicines and equipment to protect Pokémon on the battlefield. Since then, our research has extended to practically everything under the sun, from robotic limbs to biotechnology to altering Pokémon themselves to be more hardy creatures. Indeed, we've come close to creating a formula that will halve the mortality rate with technology that allows self-regeneration and extended life span, as well as acting as a painkiller to promote the fun side of battling as opposed to the darker, violent side.
Unfortunately, a company can only grow so large before it falls to corporal skulduggery. Recently, the founder of our company left due to his dissatisfaction with what we were becoming, and we're now under new management. This change of hands has resulted in a great upheaval in the company's methods, particularly in the battle department.
Originally, battling was nothing but simulation tested by volunteer Pokémon that belonged to the employees, but now we've begun experimenting without consent on company-owned specimens that are sent to battle one another in our own private arena. While the arena remains virtual, the armor used to control the user's avatar now administers shocks, pinpricks, and can even cut and burn the target to create a more "realistic" experience, and while it does improve our results, the methods are unethical and sadistic in my personal opinion. It's caused the flight of many of our first employees and the influx of any number of new applicants looking for a way to make cash. RPEPB is hardly an activist organization anymore...
However, there is still a handful of us working towards a better future. The roots of the company may have taken a blow, but we still stand strong, and through hard work and integrity we believe that we can fix this and return to our original methodology.
Unfortunately, the Pokémon don't seem to feel the same in terms of integrity... it's only a matter of time before they rebel. Can we free the imprisoned and reverse our vessel before it's too late?
